The overall unemployment rate in the UK rose from 3.9% to 4.1% between April and July, according to the Office for National Statistics. Young people have taken the brunt - the number of people aged 16-24 without a job rose 156,000 over the same period.
Renters head to the ‘burbs
Renters seem to be swapping inner-city transport hubs for more spacious homes in leafy suburbs. Rightmove says once-popular hubs like Earls Court and New Cross are less searched for, while lettings outside the city are booming. Chessington has seen a 99% increase, while South Norwood is 83% more popular.

Oracle chooses TikTok
After almost being bought by Microsoft, TikTok has chosen Oracle, another US tech firm, as its “trusted technology partner”. What does that mean? Not sure yet. But it should sidestep Trump’s threat to ban the video-sharing app from the States over data privacy concerns.
Domino’s is hiring
Domino’s is creating 6,000 new jobs ahead of its busy Christmas season, including 1,000 placements for under 25s as part of the government’s Kickstart scheme. The pizza delivery giant is on a growth spurt, having already hired an extra 6,000 people since March.
