Job ads surge
The number of job vacancies has risen to a high not seen since March. There are now 1.36 million live job ads, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC). North west England and Wales are leading the charge, with London lagging behind.
Black Friday boom
Online shopping has been one of the few economic winners to come out of lockdown - and this year’s Black Friday is expected to be bigger than ever. But it’s expected to cause a big spike in carbon emissions, according to comparison site money.co.uk. Why? There’s a rush of vans into the streets, with many shoppers expecting next-day delivery.
Hospitality struggles
Pubs and restaurants saw their sales slump by a third in October, compared to the same time last year. The struggle began even before second national lockdowns came into force. Local restrictions meant some places had to shut up shop, and everyone else had to close early to comply with the 10pm curfew.
