Pound reacts to PM's condition
The value of the pound plummeted in response to the news that Boris Johnson was moved to an intensive care unit yesterday evening with worsening coronavirus symptoms. Foreign secretary Dominic Raab is deputising “where necessary”.
£1 petrol
Prices at the pumps are falling steeply after wholesale oil prices slumped last month. At the same time, people are driving less under lockdown so we’re using 75% less petrol and 71% less diesel than usual. In some places, fuel prices already dipped below £1 per litre, for the first time since 2016.
5G ramps up security
Mobile networks are spending on extra security to protect their workers from a spate of attacks from anti-5G conspiracy theorists. Phone masts in Belfast, Birmingham, and Merseyside were set on fire over the weekend after false claims spread online that coronavirus is linked to the new 5G networks.
