Airline takes a dive

EasyJet lost money this year for the first time ever, after the pandemic wreaked havoc on the entire country’s travel plans. The budget airline has reported a pre-tax loss of £1.2 billion for the year ending 30th September. Its fleet was grounded during the spring lockdown, and overall this year it’s flown half as many passengers as usual.

Top jobs that are advertised with flexible working hours get 20% more female applicants, according to a government-backed study for Zurich insurance. The firm is now offering flexible working to all staff, and says the number of women hired for senior roles has risen by a third.

Thousands of older homeowners with interest-only mortgages* could be forced to sell their homes or face repossession next year. Interest-only mortgages are a cheaper alternative to repayment mortgages. But 86,000 deals are due to mature next year, and many borrowers could be too old to qualify for a new mortgage.
