Supermarkets crack down

Sainsbury’s and Morrisons will ban shoppers who refuse to wear a face covering, amid rising concern about transmission in supermarkets. From Monday, you’ll have to wear a mask to be allowed in. It’s compulsory to wear a mask, but the police say the don’t have the resources to enforce the rule.

Retail fail

2020 was the worst year for retail since 1995, with the biggest decline in sales for 25 years. With non-essential shops closed for long stretches during lockdown, even the online shopping boom couldn’t make up for the lost business. The only shops to buck the trend? Supermarkets. With pubs and restaurants shut, food sales were up 5.4%.

Bitcoin warning

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a stark warning about the risks of investing in Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency hit a new all-time high last week, before dropping 28% over the weekend. The drop prompted the regulator to wade in, reminding investors that they could lose all the money they put in.
