What’s your leisure
Beauty salons and leisure facilities are allowed to reopen over the next few weeks, starting with outdoor pools and outdoor theatres from tomorrow. It’s welcome news for many businesses which have been clamouring to reopen since the pubs and restaurants made their comeback last weekend. Beauticians, tattooists can open on Monday 13th, and gyms on the 25th.
High street struggles
Shoppers made a cautious return to the high street in June as non-essential shops began to reopen. Footfall was higher than in May, but still 63% lower than usual. The loss of sales is taking its toll; Boots has announced it needs to cut 4,000 jobs and John Lewis plans to close 8 stores, risking a further 1,300.
Quarantine rules end
People travelling to the UK from 58 different countries and 14 British Oversea Territories will no longer have to self-isolate for 14 days after arriving. Lots of popular holiday destinations made the list of exempt countries, including France, Croatia, and Spain. But there are a few notable exceptions; anyone arriving from the US or Canada will still have to quarantine.
