No need to quarantine

From 10th July, people arriving in the UK from certain “reduced risk” holiday destinations will be exempt from having to self-isolate for 14 days. The full list of countries comes out tomorrow. It means European holidays are back on the cards, but not without risk. Insurers are shying away from covering coronavirus, so anyone who has to cancel a holiday because they start showing symptoms is unlikely to get a refund.

Adviser comment: "If you're looking at taking a break, check out your travel insurance to see if there are any new exclusions relating to coronavirus."

Job ads on the rise

There were 990,000 job ads posted in the last week of June, a significant increase from the start of the month. Many of the new vacancies are in the hospitality sector as businesses such as pubs and restaurants prepare to reopen tomorrow. Employers are also seeking hairdressers, roofers, bricklayers, and school crossing patrols.

Covid Recovery Commission

Big dogs from many of the UK’s biggest companies have banded together to form a pressure group to help the economy get back on track. The Covid Recovery Commission includes the chairs of Tesco and Shell along with chief execs from the likes of Heathrow and Vodafone. It wants to be a “critical friend” to the government, and says it will produce practical ideas to make the UK stronger and more resilient. Thunderbirds are go.
